Finished for now...

Kelly and I spent a couple hours finishing up the fence today.  Tough work... glad it's finished. Still need to do a little stapling on the bottom fence beams.

Tiller-free Gardening

Came across an interesting article in the NY Times this morning about using newspapers to keep out weeds.  I just might try this.

Mending Fences...

Got a helluva workout this evening digging nine holes in the ground, putting in fence posts, and then refilling with concrete and dirt. I also installed a gate.

Garden 2.0 is going to be about 524 square feet.

After the concrete dries, I'm going to staplegun the metal fencing that surrounds the posts. Then I'll eventually nail on some upper and lower cross beams.

Then, someday I'll put mulch around the outside  perimeter of the fence.

One step at a time.

Garden (version 2.0)

Last week I took a machete and a mower to the old garden and cleared out a larger space for next Spring's new garden. It's going to be 625 square feet.... each side of the fence about 25' long.

Then I purchased about $250 in fencing material... gate, wire fence, fence posts, etc.

So through the week, I'll try to start putting this fence together.

Old overgrown garden patch.

New cleared out spot for the new garden fence.

I know, I know.

My riding mower has been down all summer so it kinda put a crutch in my garden plans for the year. But, now I have the itch again and it's almost Fall.

I need to get a jump on the garden early this year. Gotta get that fence up... but first, I'll need to take a machete and the mower to the jungle that has grown where my garden used to be.

Baby steps.
